Junior forward Jack Lewis scored to tie the game in the opening period but the Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 3-1 at home Wednesday night by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Lewis netted his team-high ninth goal of the season just 23 seconds into the first penalty of the night. The score was assisted by senior defenseman Robert Wiener and junior forward Justin Pelock. Lewis now has four goals and three assists in the last four contests and Wiener is tied for the team lead with eight assists on the year.
The Pointers, who had scored the game's initial goal at the 4:51 mark of the first period, regained the lead with 5:10 remaining in the second. The visitors tacked on an insurace goal with 6:52 to play in the contest.
Lake Forest out-shot the visitors 8-7 in the opening period but Stevens Point had a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal in the second and a 10-5 edge in the third.
Forester freshman goaltender George Argiropoulos, in just his second career start, made a season-high 23 saves on the night.
The loss dropped Lake Forest's record on the season to 6-12-0 while Stevens Point, the nation's fifth-ranked team, improved to 14-4-1.
The same two teams will face off again Saturday night at 7:00 in Stevens Point.
