Lake Forest senior defenseman Robert Wiener scored to tie the game at one early in the second period but host Adrian College, the second-ranked team in the nation, pulled away and defeated the Foresters 8-3.
Wiener's third goal of the season was assisted by junior forward Jack Lewis and sophomore forward Billy Kent just 16 seconds into the period.
Adrian, who had struck first with a power play goal with only seven seconds to play in the first, responded with goals at 2:27 and 2:53, another power play goal at 6:03 and yet another score at 9:20.
Lewis then lit the lamp with the first of his two goals in the game at 14:50 in the second. Kent earned his second assist of the day on the power play score.
The Bulldogs netted their fifth goal of the period at 16:56 and led 6-2 going into the third.
Goals by the home team at 11:53 and 17:27 put the game out of reach. Lewis converted another power play opportunity at the 19:19 mark with Wiener and freshman forward Cody Guidorzi assisting. It was the seventh goal of the season for Lewis.
Adrian out-shot the Foresters 38-28 in the contest and improved to 14-1-1 overall and 10-1-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Lake Forest fell to 6-9-0 overall and 4-8-0 in the league.
The Foresters will play a home-and-home series with Marian University next weekend. The teams will face off in Fond dul Lac, Wisconsin, Friday night at 7:00 and again in Lake Forest Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Saturday will be Alumni Day and the Peter Taylor Award winner will be announced between the first and second periods.
