Junior forward Justin Pelock scored his first goal of the season but the Forester men's hockey team was unable to come back at Marian University Friday night, falling 5-2.
Pelock's scored with just 21 seconds remaining in the contest with senior defenseman Robert Wiener assisting on the play.
Marian scored twice and out-shot the Foresters 17-4 in the opening period.
Lake Forest closed to within a goal on senior forward Ian Pichel's third score of the season at 3:21 in the second. Pichel was assisted by junior forward Jack Lewis and freshman forward Bron Loiselle.
The Sabres regained their two-goal advantage on a power play goal at 9:36 in the second period and added to their lead with another power play score exactly eight minutes later. The home team tacked scoring their fifth goal of the contest with just 19 seconds remaining before the second intermission.
Marian has a 12-7 advantage in shots on goal in the second period and an 11-5 edge in the third.
The loss drops the Foresters' overall record on the season to 6-10-0 and their Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 4-9-0. The Sabres, who are ranked 15th in the nation by D3hockey.com, improved to 10-5-3 overall and 8-4-1 in the league.
The same two teams will complete the home-and-home series in Lake Forest Saturday night at 7:30. It will be the Foresters' Alumni Night and the program's Peter Taylor Award will be presented between the first and second periods.
