The Lake Forest College men's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision at Concordia University Wisconsin Saturday night to finish the season's opening weekend with a split. Sophomore forward Charlie Izaguirre assisted on the Foresters only goal of the game and then accounted for one of the team's two goals in the shootout deciding the winner of this year's Border Battle.
Izaguirre set up freshman forward Cody Guidorzki's first career goal at the 4:04 mark of the opening period as the Foresters took the early lead.
The score remained 1-0 until the home team netted three goals during a span of 10-plus minutes in the second period.
The Foresters pulled their goalie with 1:11 remaining in the contest and the Falcons took advantage of the empty net 35 seconds later. to close out the scoring.
Lake Forest, which won the inaugural Border Battle with Concordia Wisconsin last year by sweeping the home-and-home series by a combined score of 14-2, brought the trophy back home thanks to Izaguirre and sophomore forward Shawn Nelson scoring in the shootout.
The Foresters will play another home-and-home series next weekend, playing at St. Norbert College Friday night before hosting the Green Knights on Saturday. Both contests will begin at 7:00 p.m.
