Junior forward Jimmy Cusan scored the Foresters' only goal in a 5-1 loss at Northland College Friday night. The same two teams will face off again Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
Cusan's second score of the season was came at the 8:30 mark of the second period and trimmed Northland's lead to 3-1. Cusan was assisted by sophomore forward Billy Kent.
The LumberJacks had taken the early lead on a power play goal at 12:53 in the opening period and added to their advantage just 52 seconds later. The margin grew to three goals at the 2:18 mark in the second period and Cusan's tally made the score 3-1 after two periods. The home team tacked on an insurance goal two-and-a-half minutes into the third period and closed out the scoring with 44 seconds remaining in the contest.
Shot on goal in the game were fairly even with the Foresters owning a 9-7 advantage in the opening period but Northland out-shooting their guests 18-14 the rest of the way.
The loss drops Lake Forest's overall record to 3-6-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 2-5-0. Northland improved to 2-7-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the league.
The Foresters and LumberJacks will play again Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
