Sophomore forward Billy Kent scored his team-high third goal of the season but the Forester men's hockey team was defeated 8-2 by the College of St. Scholastica at home on Saturday.
Kent's score came on the power play with 2:39 to play in the second period and trimmed the deficit to 6-2. He received a cross-zone pass from junior defenseman Mark Esshaki and wristed a shot over the St. Scholastica goaltender's left shoulder. Senior forward Ian Pichel also assisted on the score.
The Foresters' first goal of the contest was score just three minutes earlier off the stick of sophomore forward Shawn Nelson. He walked up the top of the circles and sent a wrister under the goalie's blocker. His first of the season was unassisted and also came on the power play.
St. Scholastica scored three times, including twice on the power play, within a two-and-a-half minute span in the first period and led 3-0 after 20 minutes of play. The Saints added goals at 2:48, 7:05, and 12:12 in the second to build a six-score cushion. It was 6-2 after two periods and the visitors tacked on one goal at 14:33 and another at 18:47 in the third to close out the scoring.
The Foresters were out-shot 27-18 in the contest.
Lake Forest, which defeated the Saints 4-3 in overtime the night before, is now 2-4-0 overall and in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. St. Scholastica improved to 2-1-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the league.
The Foresters will play their first non-conference games of the season next weekend when they travel to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Friday night and to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday. Both game swill begin at 7:00 p.m.
