The Lake Forest College men's basketball team dropped an 84-76 decision at Lawrence University Wednesday evening. Senior guard James Stack made six three-pointers for the third time in the last four games and led the Foresters with 22 points.
Stack knocked down six of 10 attempts from beyond the arc on Wednesday and added a team-high four asstists. He has connected from three-point range at least three times in each of the last 10 games and is shooting nearly 60 percent on three-point field goal attempts during that span.
With 10 points, junior forward Brian Madson was the only other player on the team in double figures on Wednesday. Three other Foresters finished with nine points apiece, including freshman guard Andrew Toth, who also led the visitors with six rebounds.
Lake Forest shot a respectable 46.7 percent from the field but Lawrence was even better at 51.1 percent. The Foresters made 12 of 23 three-point field goal attempts, exceeding 50 percent from beyond the arc for the second time in the last three games. The Vikings connected on 27 of 31 free throws while the visitors made just eight of 11. The Foresters had a 32-24 edge in rebounds.
Lawrence led 14-9 before being outscored 18-6 by Lake Forest over the next 10 minutes. The Vikings tied the game late in the half but a basket by sophomore forward Torrey Davis with less than a minute on the clock gave the Foresters a 34-32 advantage at halftime.
After a Lake Forest basket to open the second half, Lawrence outscored the visitors 20-5 to take an 11-point lead. The Foresters scored the game's next eight points to trim the deficit to three but would get no closer. The margin reached double figures again before Stack knocked down three three-pointers in the final 45 seconds. Lawrence shot 11-for-12 from the foul line in the final minute-and-a-half to secure the victory.
The Foresters are now 7-15 overall and 6-15 in the Midwest Conference this season. Lawrence raised its overall record to 12-10 and league mark to 10-7.
Lake Forest will close out the 2013-14 season on Saturday against visiting Monmouth College. The game will begin at 3:00 p.m.
