The Foresters men's basketball team defeated visiting Carroll University 75-64 Wednesday evening and is now 5-5 this season in Midwest Conference play. Lake Forest junior forward Brian Madson led all players in the game with 22 points, nine rebounds, and six blocked shots.
Madson shot 9-for-14 from the field in 31 minutes of play. His six blocks are a career-high and the second-highest single-game total in recorded team history.
Sophomore forward Torrey Davis was next on the team with 16 points and he added seven rebounds. Freshman forward Jim Schick also reached double figures with 10 points and chipped in with six boards. Freshman guard Josh Irving came off the bench to dish out a game-high six assists.
The Foresters shot 59.3 percent from the field in the second half and 52.8 for the game. They out-rebounded Carroll 39-26 but committed 15 turnovers to the Pioneers' six.
The home team's 5-0 advantage to start the game was the largest lead for either team in the first half. The were five ties and six lead changes in the period, which ended with the Foresters ahead 30-28.
Lake Forest also scored the first five points of the second half and both of Madson's three-pointers in the game were part of a 15-4 run to open the period. The margin reached a game-high 18 points after a basket by sophomore guard Austin Terry with 8:13 to play and the difference was back up to 17 after a three-pointer by Davis with 5:50 remaining. The Pioneers then rattled off 10 straight points and trailed 66-59 with 3:29 left. After another basket by Davis, Carroll scored four more points to make the score 68-63 with 2:15 to play. The visitors scored just one point the rest of the way, however, and Lake Forest made five of seven free throws in the final 70 seconds to secure the victory.
The Foresters have now won three straight games and are 6-9 overall this season. Carroll fell to 9-7 overall and 6-5 in the conference.
Lake Forest will travel to Illinois College on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
