The Lake Forest College men's basketball team was defeated 79-62 at Illinois College on Saturday, ending the Foresters' three-game winning streak. Freshman forward Jim Schick led the visitors with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Schick shot 6-for-10 from the field, made his only attempt from three-point range, and knocked down four of five free throws. He is now shooting 56.4 percent from the floor this season.
Junior forward Brian Madson was the only other Forester in double figures with 13 points. He shot 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Senior guard James Stack also made three three-pointers and finished with nine points and a team-high four assists.
Lake Forest shot just 38.6 percent from the floor while the Blueboys connected on 48.1 percent of their field goal attempts. The home team made four more three-pointers and five more free throws than Lake Forest, out-rebounded the visitors 34-32, and committed just seven turnovers to the Foresters' nine.
Lake Forest led by as many as nine points in a first half that included five lead changes. After falling behind by a point, the Foresters closed the period on an 8-3 run that gave them a 35-31 halftime lead.
A pair of baskets by Forester sophomore forward Austin Terry made the score 51-48 in favor of Lake Forest with 11 minutes to play. After calling timeout, the Blueboys outscored the visitors 21-3 over the next seven minutes to all but clinch the victory.
The loss drops the Foresters' overall record to 6-10 and their Midwest Conference mark to 5-6. Illinois College is now 10-6 overall and 6-5 in the league.
Lake Forest will host first place St. Norbert College (15-1, 11-0 MWC), which entered the week ranked 11th in the nation, Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
