Senior Christi Valicenti broke a pair of her own program records and tied another as the Lake Forest College women's tennis team was defeated 8-1 by host Coe College and 5-4 by Luther College on Saturday.
Coe, the 14th-ranked team in the Central Region, swept doubles to begin the Foresters' first match of the day.
Valicenti came out on top of a 6-4, 6-2 decision at #1 singles for the visitors' lone team point. It was her 22nd singles victory of the season, breaking the program record she set as a freshman.
Valicenti and fellow senior Grace Dowling prevailed 8-3 at the top spot in the doubles lineup against Luther. It was the 21st win of the year for both players, tying the school record set by Valicenti and Melika Celebic in 2012-13. The triumph raised Valicenti's overall victory total in 2015-16 to 43, one more than her program record from three years ago.
Trailing 2-1 after doubles, the Foresters took the lead after Dowling finished off a 6-4, 6-0 win at #2 singles and freshman Allison Watts edged out her opponent 7-5, 6-3 at #3. A three-set triumph by Luther at #4 tied the score but Lake Forest regained the lead on Valicenti's 6-3, 4-6, (10-3) victory at #1. The Norse then came out on top at the bottom two spots in the lineup to take the match.
The Foresters fell to 13-6 overall this season while Coe improved to 12-7 and Luther to 12-5.
Lake Forest will be in action again on the road next Sunday when the team will play at Elmhurst College at 9:00 in the morning and at North Park University at 2:30 p.m.
