The Forester women's tennis team had four representatives in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan, over the weekend. After upsetting the region's #2-ranked doubles team on Friday, Lake Forest seniors Christi Valicenti and Grace Dowling defeated the #14 seeds before falling in Saturday's quarterfinal round.
Valicenti and Dowling edged out the #14 seeded team from Case Western Reserve 9-7 to become one of just eight pairs remaining in the competition. Their run finally ended in the quarterfinal round, however, when they were knocked off 8-4 by the eventual runners-up from Washington University St. Louis.
Valicenti had also posted a pair of victories in Friday's singles play but fell 6-3, 6-1 to the event's top seed on Saturday.
Dowling and freshmen Billie Rodman and Allison Watts competed in the singles back draw on Saturday, where Rodman posted a victory to advance to the round of 16.
The Foresters will put their 9-1 overall record and 7-1 mark in Midwest Conference play on the line at home next weekend. Lake Forest will host Grinnell College Saturday morning at 9:00 and Cornell College Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
