The Lake Forest College women's tennis team won 7-2 at Lawrence University Sunday morning to complete its trip to Wisconsin with a pair of victories in three Midwest Conference contests. The top four players in the Foresters' lineup were 2-0 on the day and 5-1 for the weekend.
Seniors Christi Valicenti and Grace Dowling prevailed 8-2 at #1 doubles and freshmen Billie Rodman and Allison Watts won by the same score at #2, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead going into singles play.
A Lawrence victory at #6 singles tied the match but Dowling quickly regained the lead for the Foresters, by defeating her opponent at #3 without losing a game. Rodman bested the Vikings' top player 6-0, 6-2 to make the team score 4-2 but the home team prevailed at #5 to pull back to within a point. Watts then finished off a 7-5, 6-1 triumph at #4 to clinch the victory and Valicenti took both sets 6-2 at #2 to close out the match.
Lake Forest is now 5-1 overall and 3-1 in league play this season. Lawrence fell to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
The Foresters will head south for three more MWC matches next weekend. They will play at Illinois College Saturday morning at 9:00 and at Monmouth College at 2:00 in the afternoon. Lake Forest will then close out the weekend at Knox College Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
