The Forester women's hockey team was defeated 3-1 at Adrian College Friday night. Thanks to a College of St. Scholastica loss at UW-Superior, Lake Forest clinched at least fourth place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings and will play at home in next weekend's NCHA Quarterfinals.
Sophomore Stephanie Slinde scored the Foresters only goal Friday night and it was the final goal of the contest. Freshman Emily Wybo and junior Angie Chronis assisted on Slinde's sixth score of the season.
After a pair of scoreless periods, Adrian took the lead at 3:38 in the third. The Bulldogs added a short-handed score at 6:14 and a power play goal at 9:41. Slinde put the visitors on the scoreboard at 12:21.
Adrian out-shot the Foresters 21-6 during the first two periods and Lake Forest had an 11-10 edge in shots on goal in the third.
Forester sophomore goaltender Stacey Dierking made 28 saves in the contest.
Both teams are now 13-8-2 overall this season. Lake Forest fell to 12-6-1 in NCHA play while Adrian raised its league record to 11-6-2. They will face off again tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 (EST) with third place in the conference standings on the line.
