The University of Wisconsin-River Falls showed why its ranked seventh in the country in Division III with a 5-1 victory over Lake Forest Friday night at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. The Falcons (12-1-1, 10-1-0 NCHA) got off to a quick start with three first period goals, including one on the power play.
Lake Forest (9-5-1, 8-3-0 NCHA) cut the lead to 3-1 at 11:19 of the second period on a power play goal by Jessica Dare. Dare put back a rebound in front of the net to get the Foresters on the board.
But UW-River Falls added insurance goals at 17:26 and 19:16 of the second period to extend its lead. Brook Story and Kait Mason each finished with a goal and an assist for the Falcons, who had five different goal scorers in the game.
River Falls' Melissa Deardorff stopped 30 of 31 shots to improve to 7-1 on the season.
The Foresters were 1-for-4 on the power play while River Falls was 1-for-5. Shots were almost even as Lake Forest had 31 and the Falcons finished with 32.
The two teams will return to Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse for a 2:00 face-off tomorrow afternoon.
