The Lake Forest College women's hockey team defeated visiting UW-River Falls, the nation's seventh-ranked team, 4-2 Saturday afternoon. Four different Foresters lit the lamp and sophomore goaltender Stacey Dierking finished the game with 35 saves.
Dierking stopped all eight shots on goal she faced in a scoreless opening period and turned away 12 of 13 in the second. The Falcons out-shot the home team 16-5 in the third period but Dierking's 15 saves in the final 20 minutes secured the Forester victory and raised her record on the season to 5-2-1 and save percentage to .906.
Lake Forest took the lead on a rebound goal by senior Mira Trebilcock at the 4:26 mark of the second period. Classmate Kim Herring and sophomore Sarah Gilbride assisted on Trebilcock's second score of the season.
River Falls, however, converted a power play opportunity just 81 seconds later.
The Foresters regained the advantage when Herring also put back a rebound at 16:26. Trebilcock was credited with an assist on Herring's team-high 12th goal of the year.
The Falcons tied the game at 5:47 in the third period, exactly 20 minutes after their first goal of the afternoon.
The official game-winner was scored by junior Jenn Caldwell mid-way through the third period. She netted her third goal of the year after receiving a pass from freshman Erin Shamley.
Gilbride added an insurance goal at 11:34 while the Foresters were on the power play. Freshmen Morgan Pope and Laura Reckdenwald set up Gilbride's second score of the season.
The Foresters killed a pair of minor penalties in the game's final six minutes and held on for the victory.
After splitting the weekend series, River Falls and Lake Forest remain in first and second place, respectively, in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. The Falcons are now 12-2-1 overall this season and 10-2-0 in league play. The Foresters raised their overall record to 10-5-1 and NCHA mark to 9-3-0.
Lake Forest will travel to St. Norbert College next weekend and take on the Green Knights at 7:00 Friday night and 2:00 the following afternoon.
