Ian Pichel and Luke Swardenski each scored a goal and an assist and goalie Brendan Sullivan made 29 saves but the Lake Forest men's hockey team lost to Milwaukee School of Engineering 5-4 in overtime on Saturday night at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
Sullivan was honored with the Peter Taylor Award, as voted upon by members of the Lake Forest men's hockey team, in between the first and second periods of the game. The Lake Forest Athletics Department also honored retired men's hockey coach Tony Fritz, who received the John MacInnes award from the American Hockey Coaches Association.
MSOE (14-7-2, 11-5-2 MCHA) got on the board at 4:21 of the first period before Lake Forest (9-10-4, 6-9-3 MCHA) tied the game at 16:24 on Pichel's goal.
The Foresters scored back-to-back goals at 8:03 and 11:35 of the second period on goals by Swardenski and Andrew Stein to take a 3-2 lead. MSOE responded with a goal at 11:35 to cut the lead to 3-2.
Lake Forest came out in the third period with a power play goal at 3:31 from Rob Caparelli and assisted by Charlie Stein and Bobby Barrett for a 4-2 lead.
MSOE started chipping away at the lead with goals at 4:18 to cut the lead and then added a goal at 10:22 to tie the game 4-4.
The Raiders scored the winner at 2:35 of overtime.
Lake Forest is back in action next weekend with a home and home series with Lawrence. The Foresters travel to Lawrence on Friday night for a 7 p.m. game before returning home the following night for a 7 p.m. game. Saturday night's game is also Senior night and Parents night.
