Junior defenseman Andrew Stein and junior forward Pat Charron scored goals for the Lake Forest College men's hockey team, but the Foresters could not hold on in a 3-2 loss to Marian on Friday night in their home opener.
Stein gave the Foresters (0-2, 0-1 MCHA) an early lead at 11:22 of the first period on a rebound shot on the right side of the net. Charron and Alec DeAngelo assisted on the goal.
Marian (1-1-1, 1-0 MCHA) tied the game just over three minutes later on a goal by Andy Kuechler. The two teams skated through a scoreless second period.
Marian came out strong in the third period, scoring back-to-back goals at 4:16 and 8:51 to take a 3-1 lead before Charron pulled the Foresters within one at 16:19.
Lake Forest pulled goalie Brendan Sullivan with a minute to go in favor of an extra skater. The Foresters had opportunities to tie the game but were unable to convert. Sullivan went back in goal with 10 seconds left in the game when Bobby Barrett was called for a slashing penalty.
Sullivan finised with 27 saves including 15 in the second period. His counterpart Randy Willis made 37 saves including 19 in the third period.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at Marian at 7 p.m.
