A pair of second period goals gave Lake Forest a 2-0 victory over visiting Adrian College, the fourth-ranked team in the country, Friday night.
Forester junior forward Lexi Morgan scored what proved to be the official game-winner at the 6:26 mark of the second period. Her fifth goal of the season and fifth career game-winning score was assisted by freshman forward Abigail Tucci, whose three points this season have all come in the last two games.
Lake Forest doubled its lead at 9:40 when freshman forward Grace Black netted her first career goal. Junior defenseman Julia Unterseher set up the score, poking the puck past the Bulldog's goalie from the right side of the net to Black, who sent it across the line.
The two goals were more than enough for Forester junior goaltender Jacque Rogers, who turned away six shots on goal in the first and third periods and nine in the second for her third shutout of the season and 15th of her career, seven more than any other player in program history. Rogers also climbed to 10th in the nation in save percentage (.946) and 16th in goals against average (1.40) and continues to lead the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association in both categories.
Adrian outshot the Foresters 21-19 on the night.
Lake Forest improved to 10-4-4 overall this season and 7-1-3 in NCHA play while Adrian fell to 14-4-0 overall and 10-1-0 in the league. The teams will face off again in Alumni Memorial Field House Saturday afternoon at 1:00. It will be the final regular season home game for Forester senior Amy Budde.
