Lake Forest College women's hockey player Jacque Rogers was named Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday for her performance in the Foresters' split with the University of Eau Claire, the 10th-ranked team in the nation, last weekend.
Rogers made 36 saves to lead her team to a 3-1 triumph over the Blugolds on Friday. Fifteen of the junior goaltender's stops came in the opening period and she stopped 13 of 14 shots on goal in the third with the visitors finally getting on the scoreboard when they pulled their goalie in favor of an extra attacker while on the power play with 3:28 to play.
The Foresters were edged out 2-1 on Saturday and Rogers was even busier than the night before, making 45 saves in 47 chances. Eau Claire scored one power play goal in the opening frame and another early in the second before Rogers turned away the last 24 shots on goal she faced.
Rogers now ranks second in the NCHA with a 1.77 goals against average this season and third with a save percentage of .937.
NCHA Players of the Week are selected by the league's directors of media and information. Rogers has now earned the award three times in her career.
