Freshman Jordan Trapp scored a pair of third period goals to help lead the Lake Forest College women's hockey team to a 4-1 victory at St. Norbert College Friday night.
Trapp's fifth and sixth goals of the season came on the power play as the Foresters converted on three of five man-advantage opportunities. After scoring on six of nine chances in the last three games, the Lake Forest power play ranks fourth in the nation at 29.9 percent this year. Trapp's first score came at the 3:56 mark and the second, which was assisted by sophomore defenseman Amanda Boisjolie and sophomore forward Sydney Simone, gave the visitors a 4-0 lead with 5:28 to play in the contest.
The Foresters' first goal of the night was also a power play score and came at the 6:34 mark of the second period. Sophomore forward Lexi Morgan extended her personal goal streak to five games on her Northern Collegiate Hockey Association-leading 20th score of the season. Just four players in the nation have scored more than her this year. Senior forward Olivia Spellmire, who leads the league with 37 points, and senior defenseman Kayla Giriffith assisted on the goal.
Lake Forest doubled its lead at 12:18 in the second on sophomore defenseman Julia Unterseher's seventh score of the season. Simone set up the score to become the first player in program history with at least 20 assists in back-to-back seasons. It was the Foresters' 115th goal of the year, breaking the previous school record set by the 2013-14 team.
Forester sophomore goaltender Jacque Rogers faced just three shots on goal in the opening period and nine in each of the other two. She kept the Green Knights off the scoreboard until the 17:36 mark of the third and improved to 8-4-0 with a .923 save percentage and 1.50 goals against average this year.
The victory raised Lake Forest's overall record in 2017-18 to 14-8-0 and conference mark to 12-3-0. The Foresters also clinched home ice for the quarterfinal round of the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs in two weeks. St. Norbert fell to 8-11-3 overall and 8-5-2 in the league. The teams will face off again Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
