Senior forward Olivia Spellmire became just the fourth player in program history to reach 100 career points as the Lake Forest College women's hockey team blanked visiting Trine University 9-0 on Friday.
Spellmire, who entered the night with 96 career points, assisted on a pair of goals and scored one of her own in the first period and then hit the milestone on another assist in the final stanza. She is the program's all-time leader with 60 assists and the goal was her 40th. Spellmire is now just two points shy of the career total posted by current assistant coach Melissa Paluch and five away from Kim Herring, who ranks second in team annals. Michelle Greeneway is the program's all-time leading scorer with 152 career points.
All three of Spellmire's assists in the contest came on goals by fellow senior forward Amanda Brunges, who became the sixth Forester with a hat trick this season. She entered her first career three-goal game with just two scores so far this year.
Freshman forward Kristina Bellomo matched Spellmire with four points on a goal and three assists. She started the scoring at the 6:28 mark of the opening period with what turned out to be her second official game-winning goal of the year. She has four scores overall.
Sophomore forward Lexi Morgan, who assisted Brunges on the only power play goal of the night, lit the lamp twice herself and is now tied with Spellmire for second on the team with 10 tallies this season. Sophomore forward Amy Budde leads the squad with 11, including one on Friday. Sophomore defenseman Julia Unterseher accounted for the home team's other goal, her third of the year.
Lake Forest outshot the Thunder 57-8 on the night.
Forester sophomore goaltender Jacque Rogers stopped all eight shots from Trine for her fourth shutout of the season, which is tied-for-first in the nation. She also leads the country with a 0.53 goals against average and ranks fourth in save percentage at .958. Rogers has not allowed a goal since the season opener, a span of more than 282 minutes.
The victory raised Lake Forest's overall record to 6-3-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 6-1-0. Trine fell to 1-6-0, both overall and in the league. The same two teams will face off again Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
