After a difficult start to the season the women's basketball team has won six of its last 10 games, including a 62-44 triumph at Lawrence University on Wednesday. Junior guard Jenna Rice made all three of her attempts from three-point range and finished with 10 points on the night.
Rice connected on a pair of three-pointers late in the first half and the Foresters led by 11 (26-15) at the break.
An 11-0 Forester run early in the second half extended the visitors' advantage to 22 points and they led by as many as 25 later in the period. The closest Lawrence came the rest of the way was 16 points in the final two minutes of the game.
Senior guard Sam Schuring led Lake Forest with 14 points and seven assists and her five rebounds tied for team-high honors. Sophomore forward Sam Cady scored six points, matched Schuring's rebound total, and led the Foresters with four steals.
Lake Forest shot 43 percent from the field and from three-point range. The visitors out-rebounded Lawrence 31-28 and forced 36 Viking turnovers while committing 24.
The Foresters raised their overall record on the season to 7-15 and their Midwest Conference mark to 7-10. Lawrence fell to 3-19 overall and 1-16 in the league.
Lake Forest will close out the season at home against Monmouth College on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and it will be the final collegiate game for Schuring and fellow Forester senior Gina Ambrose.
