The Forester women's basketball team fell 64-53 to St. Norbert College at home Tuesday night. Lake Forest senior guard Sam Schuring finished with a game-high 18 points and six assists and tied for the team lead with five rebounds and three steals.
Schuring, who shot 8-for-14 from the field on the night, is now just 12 assists shy of the program's career record of 372 set by Priscilla Posick in 1990. She leads the Midwest Conference with 5.5 assists and 2.8 steals per contest.
Senior forward Gina Ambrose and sophomore forward Sam Cady also reached double figures on Tuesday with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Lake Forest shot 39.6 percent from the field while St. Norbert was at 44 percent. The teams combined for 33 turnovers and just nine three-pointers in 36 attempts. The Green Knights were 16-for-26 from the foul line while the home team made just six free throws in eight tries. The visitors also had a 41-27 edge in rebounds.
The game was filled with runs by both teams, beginning with nine straight points by the Foresters to starrt the night. The home team's lead reached as many as 10 points before St. Norbert outscored Lake Forest 24-6 during the final 13 minutes of the opening period. The Knights took a 30-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The visitors lead reached 10 points early in the second half before a 13-point run by the Foresters put them back on top. A three-pointer by Lake Forest junior Abby Wiedman extended the lead to five points at 42-37 with 14 minutes to play. St. Norbert then rattled off 12 points in a row to regain the advantage and the visitors remained at least three points ahead the rest of the way. The Knights made six straight free throws in the final minute to help close out the victory.
Lake Forest fell to 4-13 overall this season and 4-8 in league play. St. Norbert is now 13-4 overall and tied for first place in the standings with a conference record of 10-2.
The Foresters will host Grinnell College Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
