The Forester women's basketball team was defeated 81-55 at Ripon College on Saturday. Nine of Lake Forest junior guard Danielle Canulli's team-high 17 points were scored from the free throw line.
Canulli shot 4-for-9 from the field and 9-for-10 from the charity stripe in the game. All but four of her points were scored in the first half. Sophomore forward K.C. Stralka was next on the team with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor and she added five rebounds and three assists. Sophomore forward Sam Cady led the Foresters with seven rebounds and senior guard Sam Schuring with four assists.
Lake Forest shot just 34 percent from the floor in the game while the Red Hawks made exactly half of their field goal attempts. The visitors connected on just one of 10 three-pointers, knocked down 18 of 30 foul shots, and committed 20 turnovers to Ripon's 14.
The score was tied four times in the first half, the last at 21-21 after a pair of Canulli free throws with 5:59 on the clock. Ripon outscored the Foresters 17-2 the rest of the half and led 38-23 after 20 minutes of play.
The margin was at least 20 points for most of the second half and never dropped below 15 in the period.
The Foresters fell to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in Midwest Conference play. Ripon is now 3-3 overall and 3-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will play at St. Norbert College next Wednesday night at 7:30.
