The league-leading 13th goal of the season by senior forward Jack Lewis was not enough as the Forester men's hockey team was defeated 2-1 at Marian University Friday night.
Lewis also leads the Northern Collegiate Hockey association in power play goals and his seventh such score this season tied Friday night's game at one with 2:39 to play in the second period. Defensemen Mark Esshaki, a senior, and Connor Duncan, a freshman, each earned his 13th assist this year.
Marian, who had scored the game's first goal at the 13:08 mark of the opening period, regained the lead with 3:24 remaining in the third and hung on for the victory, despite the Foresters pulling their goaltender with 2:02 minutes remaining in the contest.
Lake Forest out-shot the Sabres 9-6 in the game's final 20 minutes and both teams put 29 shots on goal on the night.
Forester sophomore goaltender George Argiropoulos made 27 saves in the contest, including 13 in the second period.
The loss evened Lake Forest's overall record on the year at 9-9-0, and dropped the Foresters' NCHA mark to 5-8-0. Marian improved to 10-7-1 overall and 8-5-0 in the league. The same two teams will face off in Lake Forest's Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday night at 7:00.
