Sophomore forward Bron Loiselle's first career multi-goal performance helped the Lake Forest College men's hockey team defeated Northland College 6-1 at home Friday night.
Loiselle's power play goal at the 9:19 mark was the only score of the opening period. He was assisted by junior forward Charlie Izaguirre and senior defenseman Mark Esshaki.
After the LumberJacks got on the scoreboard on a power play goal of their own at 4:18 in the second, the Foresters responded with three unanswered scores in the period and five in the game, beginning with sophomore forward Cody Guidorzi's fourth of the year at 6:54. Esshaki and junior forward Billy Kent assisted on what proved to be Guidorzi's first career game-winning goal.
Esshaki reached three points for the second straight game when he converted a power play opportunity at the 8:52 mark of the second period. Izaguirre assisted on Esshaki's third score of the season.
Loiselle lit the lamp for the second time on the night and fifth time this year just 59 seconds later with sophomore defenseman Ryan Kruss and senior forward Jack Lewis assisting. Lewis has now recorded a point in 10 of 12 games this season, including each of the last seven.
Senior forward Anthony Annunziato scored the first goal of the third period at the 6:15 mark. His third score of the year was set up by sophomore forward Drew Cleerman and junior forward Davis DeKorte.
Kent closed out the scoring with his fifth goal of the 2016-17 season at 10:22 in the third. Guidorzi and freshman defenseman Zach Feldman were each credited with an assist on the play.
Lake Forest out-shot Northland 6-5 in the opening period and 16-9 in the second before putting nine shots on goal to the visitors' 10 in the game's final 20 minutes.
With 23 saves in 24 opportunities, Forester sophomore goaltender George Argiropoulos improved to 5-2-0 with a .908 save percentage and 2.77 goals against average on the year.
The victory raised Lake Forest's overall record to 8-4-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 4-3-0 this season. Northland fell to 3-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the league. The teams will face off again in game two of the series Saturday afternoon at 4:00.
