Senior goaltender Billy Cooper posted his first career shutout as the Lake Forest College men's hockey team defeated visiting Nazareth College 6-0 on Saturday.
Cooper stopped all 36 shots on goal he faced, including 18 in the second period. He improved to 3-2-0 with a .912 save percentage on the season.
Forester sophomore forward Drew Cleerman started the scoring at the 14:19 mark of the opening period. His second goal of the season was assisted by junior forward Billy Kent. Lake Forest converted a power play opportunity two minutes later with sophomore Bron Loiselle scoring for the third time this year and junior forward Charlie Izaguirre and freshman defenseman Connor Duncan each picking up an assist. The home team made it a three-goal period when senior forward Jimmy Cusan lit the lamp with 1:13 on the clock. His third score this season was set up by Loiselle and senior defenseman Mark Esshaki.
Lake Forest added two more tallies in the second period. The first career goal for freshman defenseman Reed Scahill made the score 4-0 at the 4:46 mark and junior forward Davis DeKorte added his first of the season less than two minutes later. Kent and sophomore forward Cody Guidorzi assisted on Scahill's goal and DeKorte's score was set up by Duncan and Esshaki.
Esshaki and Duncan each added his third assist of the contest at the 10:55 mark of the final period. The power play goal was the team-high 10th score of the season for senior forward Jack Lewis, who ranks second in the nation in that category.
Lake Forest improved to 7-4-0 this year while the Golden Flyers fell to 4-5-1.
The Foresters will resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play next weekend against visiting Northland College. The teams will face off Friday night at 7:30 and Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
