Sophomore goaltender George Argiropoulos recorded his first career shutout as the Lake Forest College men's hockey team prevailed 5-0 at Aurora University Tuesday night.
Argiropoulos made five saves in the opening period and seven in each of the final two stanzas while keeping the Spartans off the scoreboard. He improved to 2-1-0 on the year.
Sophomore defenseman Luke Meade made his season debut a memorable one by scoring the first time as a Forester with 3:39 to play in the first period. The official game-winning goal was assisted by junior forwards Anthony Annunziato and Davis DeKorte. Lake Forest struck again with just 62 seconds to play in the period. Senior defenseman Mark Asshaki's second score this season was set up by sophomore forward Cody Guidorzi.
Lake Forest lit the lamp three more times in the second period to put the game out of reach. Junior forward Billy Kent netted his fourth of the season at the 4:57 mark with fellow junior forward George Girasimou assisting on the play. Sophomore forward Drew Cleereman added to the visitors lead with his first goal of the year, an unassisted score, at 6:33, Senior froward Jack Lewis, who continues to lead the nation in goals, added his eighth of the season with 4:10 on the clock to close out the scoring. Senior defenseman Travis Hill and freshman defenseman Zach Feldman were credited with assists on the final goal of the night.
The Foresters out-shot Aurora 29-12 over the course of the first two periods and 36-19 for the game.
Lake Forest is now 4-3-0 overall this season while Aurora fell to 2-5-0.
The Foresters will host additional non-conference games against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Friday night at 7:30 and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
