The Lake Forest College volleyball team finished the 2013 season with a 25-14, 25-17, 26-28, 25-22 victory at Beloit College on Saturday. The Foresters tied a season-high with 53 kills in the match and their .291 hitting percentage was the their second-best mark of the year.
Freshman Brittany Avonts led the Foresters with 15 kills and posted a .560 hitting percentage on the day. She finished the season with a team-high 287 kills and her .342 hitting percentage ranks fourth in team history. Avonts also tied junior Torie Pasiewicz for first in the squad with 29 aces this year.
Lake Forest sophomore K.C. Wenson was next on the team with nine kills and her hitting percentage on the afternoon was .474. Junior Sarah House had eight kills and served up a season-high four aces.
Pasiewicz and senior Victoria Drasler tied for team-high honors with 21 assists apiece and Pasiewicz led Lake Forest on the season with 453.
The 13 digs tallied by both sophomore Brianne Honda and junior Taylor Bradbury were also team-highs and sophomore Natalie Literski also reached double figures with 10. Honda's 261 digs on the year led the Foresters.
Avonts, Wenson, and Drasler each had two bocks in the match and Avonts had a team-high 77 on the season.
Lake Forest took the first set after winning the first five and last eight points.
The Foresters trailed in set two by as many as three points but a 4-0 run in the middle of the set gave the visitors the lead and they closed it out with six points in a row.
Beloit trailed 23-15 in the third set before rattling off eight straight points to tie the score. The Foresters failed to convert on a pair of match point opportunities and the Buccaneers won three points in a row to take the set.
The fourth set was close throughout and tied at 17 before a kill and an ace by Avonts gave the visitors the lead for good. Wenson, House, and Literski also had kills down the stretch as the Foresters closed things out.
Lake Forest finished the season with a 12-14 overall record and a 6-4 mark in Midwest Conference play. Beloit fell to 6-17 overall and 1-9 in the league.
Drasler will be the Foresters' only loss to graduation in May.
