The Lake Forest College volleyball team posted a 25-22, 25-16, 16-25, 25-20 victory at Marian University Tuesday night. Forester junior setter Torie Pasiewicz matched her season-high with 26 assists and added a dozen digs and a pair of aces.
It was the third 26-assist performance of the season for Pasiewicz, who ranks seventh in program history with 1,591 assists in her career. It was also the third time this year that she reached double figures in digs and the sixth time she served up at least two aces.
Freshman middle blocker Brittany Avonts led the visitors with 16 kills and did not commit an attack error in 25 attempts (.640 hitting percentage). It was her seventh straight match with at least 10 kills and her sixth during that span with a hitting percentage above .400.
Forester sophomore K.C. Wenson was next on the team with nine kills and she added six blocks. Classmate Brianne Honda led Lake Forest with 18 digs and senior Victoria Drasler's 14 digs were a career-high.
Drasler started the match with a kill as the Foresters jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set. The margin grew to four on several occasions but Marian battled back and took a 15-14 lead. Lake Forest won six of the next seven points to pull ahead again and, despite the Sabres fighting off three set point opportunities, the visitors closed out the set on a Marian attack error.
Lake Forest never trailed in set two. Four straight points early in the set gave the Foresters a 7-3 lead and a 9-3 run later on made the score 21-12. A Marian service error with the score at 24-16 finished it off.
Set three was toed six times early on and the Foresters were on their way to victory with a 12-10 lead. The Sabres, however, went on a 13-1 run to take a commanding lead and eventually won the set.
The Foresters rattled off four or more points in a row three times in the fourth and final set, the last after the home team had cut the lead to three after a four-point streak of its own. A 5-1 run by the Sabres made the score 23-20 in favor of the Foresters, who were victorious after a service error and a set error by Marian.
Lake Forest is now 6-11 on the season while Marian fell to 5-14.
The Foresters will resume Midwest Conference play this weekend when they host Knox College Friday night at 7:00 and Monmouth College at noon on Saturday.
