The Lake Forest College women's tennis team extended its Midwest Conference South Division winning streak to 12 matches by blanking Illinois College and host Monmouth College 9-0 on Sunday. Senior captain Lucy-George Cooper was one of two Foresters to win four times on the day.
Cooper and junior Leslie Walton did not lose a game in doubles or singles play against Illinois College. They combined for an 8-0 victory at #3 doubles before prevailing 6-0, 6-0 at #5 and #6 singles, respectively.
Lake Forest sophomores Sarah Paulson and Christi Valicenti posted an 8-1 victory at #1 doubles while sophomore Grace Dowling and freshman Lexi Chionis won by the same score at #2.
Valicenti played at the top spot in the singles lineup and came out on top of a 6-1, 6-3 decision while freshman Marisa Guggenheim matched Cooper and Walton with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at #2. Senior Aimee Fadden recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #3 singles and classmate Elina Shapiro won 6-0, 6-2 at #4.
The only game Cooper and Walton lost all day came during their 8-1 victory at #2 doubles against Monmouth, which fielded just five singles players and a pair of doubles teams. Fadden and Guggenheim blanked the Fighting Scots' top tandem 8-0.
Guggenheim prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at #2 singles while Dowling, Shapiro, Cooper, and Walton won 6-0, 6-0 at #1, #3, #4, and #5, respectively.
Lake Forest remained perfect on the year with an 11-0 overall record and a second straight 5-0 season in the MWC South. The Foresters' last loss in league play was at Grinnell College on September 18, 2011. Illinois College fell to 6-3 overall and 1-3 in the division. Monmout is still winless in 15 matches overall and five in the conference.
The Foresters earned the MWC South's top seed in next Friday's MWC Championship Tournament and will take on Carroll University in the morning semifinals. Grinnell will face St. Norbert College in the other semifinal and the winners will play for the 2013 league title.
