Rain pushed back the match four-and-a-half hours and moved it indoors but the Lake Forest College women's tennis team eventually defeated visiting Knox College 8-0 Friday night. Freshman Marissa Guggenheim and senior Aimee Fadden remained undefeated on the season at #3 doubles.
Guggenheim and Fadden did not lose a game in their 8-0 victory on Friday and sophomore Grace Dowling and junior Gracie Mullins followed with an 8-2 triumph at #2. The teams did not play their match at #1 doubles due to time constraints.
Sophomore Sarah Paulson was the first Forester to finish her victory in singles. She prevailed 6-0, 6-1 at #1 and sophomore Emily Rabin won by the same score at #6. Freshman Brittany Khayet clinched the team victory for Lake Forest with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #5 and freshman Lexi Chionis posted the same score in her win at #3. Sophomore Christi Valicenti played in the closest match of the night but eventually came out on top of a 6-4, 6-3 decision. Senior Elina Shapiro won both sets 6-1 at #5 to close out the match.
Lake Forest is now 7-0 overall this season and 1-0 in Midwest Conference South Division play. Knox fell to 3-8 overall and 2-1 in the division.
The Foresters will play all four of their other divisional matches away from home next weekend. They will play at Grinnell College at 9:30 Saturday morning before traveling to Cornell College for a 3:30 contest that afternoon. The will go to Monmouth College on Sunday, where they will take on Illinois College at 9:00 a.m. and the host school at noon. The top two teams in the division will advance to the MWC Championship Tournament the following Friday in Rockford, Illinois.
