Six members of the Lake Forest College women's tennis team traveled to DePauw University to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament over the weekend. Forester sophomore Grace Dowling advanced to the second round in both singles and doubles play.
Dowling and junior Gracie Mullins edged out a doubles team from Illinois Wesleyan University 9-7 to reach the round of 32. They nearly knocked off the tournament's third-seeded duo from DePauw but fell 8-6.
Freshman Marisa Guggenheim and senior Aimee Fadden fell in the opening round before defeating a doubles team from fellow Midwest Conference member Knox College to begin play in the consolation bracket. They were eliminated in the following round.
The Foresters' other doubles team was made up of sophomore Christi Valicenti and freshman Lexi Chionis. They dropped an 8-1 decision in the main draw and lost an 8-4 contest in the first round of the consolation bracket.
Dowling was the only one of four Forester singles player to advance to the second round. Valicenti, Chionis, and Guggenheim fell in the opening round of both the main and consolation brackets.
Lake Forest will open Midwest Conference South Division play on Friday against visiting Knox College. The contest will begin at 3:30 p.m.
