Freshman Yuka Kawata shot nearly 10 strokes better than her season average to help lead the Lake Forest College women's golf team to a runner-up finish at the Elmhurst Bluejay Spring Invitational on Tuesday.
Kawata completed the 5,829-yard par-72 course in 97 shots to finish third on her team and 10th out of 16 players in the field.
The Foresters' top player was senior Allie Girard, whose round of 82 was good for second place, just three shots behind the medalist. Freshman Cece Cruz was second on the team and seventh overall with a 91 and sophomore Kalay Kotasek was Lake Forest's fourth golfer with a score of 99.
There were five teams competing at the event, although just three had the required four players to score as a team. Aurora University won the event with a score of 362, seven strokes better than the Foresters. Purdue University Northwest finished in 397 shots.
Lake Forest will be in action again on Friday and Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Spring Fling. The event will be played at The Beloit Club in Beloit, Wisconsin, with Friday's competition beginning at noon and Saturday's at 9:00 a.m.
