Senior Allie Girard was the individual champion and helped lead the Lake Forest College women's golf team to a fifth-place finish and program record score at the 15-team UW-Whitewater Invitational on Saturday.
Girard shot an even-par 73 in Friday's opening round, five shots better than the team record she had set as a sophomore in 2014. Her 80 in Saturday's final round gave her a two-day score of 153, one shot ahead of the runner-up from team champion Carthage College.
Forester freshman Cece Cruz posted the second-lowest score on the team in both rounds, finishing with season-best 84 on Friday before improving on that by a stroke with an 83 on Saturday. She finished tied-for-19th in the 96-player field.
After carding a 90 in round one, sophomore Kalay Kotasek finished in 84 strokes in round two to move up into a tie for 34th place overall. Classmate Anhayte Guajardo was tied-for-45th after shooting an 86 on Friday and 92 on Saturday. Freshman Yuka Kawata tied for 79th place with a two-day score of 201.
Carthage won the event with a score of 633, a dozen shots better than runner-up University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater was third and 655 and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville fourth at 667. The Foresters' 333 on Friday was a team record by nine strokes and their 672 the best two-day score in program history by 37 shots. They finished six strokes ahead of sixth-place University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Lake Forest's next event is a dual match with visiting Mount Mary University on Friday. The first players will tee off at 2:00 p.m. at nearby Highland Park Country Club.
