Lake Forest Wins Marian Invite by 20 Strokes

Lake Forest Wins Marian Invite by 20 Strokes

The Forester golf team finished in first place at the two-day Marian University Invite over the weekend. Lake Forest had four of the top 12 individuals in the 41-player field.

Senior Allie Girard was the runner-up with a two-day score of 175. She and Forester freshman Cece Cruz were tied-for-third after completing the 5,802-yard, par-72 course in 89 strokes on Saturday. Girard then posted the best round on Sunday with an 86, one shot ahead of Lake Forest sophomore Kalay Kotasek. They were the only two players in the field under 90. Girard finished the weekend with 11 pars, including eight on Sunday.

Kotasek placed fourth overall at 180. She carded four pars on Saturday and six on Sunday. Sophomore Anhayte Guajardo was next on the team and sixth overall with a score of 185. She had four pars each day. Cruz, whose three on the par-4, 332-yard 11th hole on Saturday was Lake Forest's only birdie of the weekend, finished in a tie for 11th place with a two-day score of 193.

Weather forced some players to complete their opening round Sunday morning and the Foresters led second-place UW-Stevens Point by nine shots at that point. Their 361 on Saturday matched the fourth-bast round in team history. Lake Forest's score of 376 on Sunday was also the best in the field, four strokes better than Coe College. The Foresters' 733 for the weekend was just three shots off the program record and 20 ahead of runner-up Stevens Point and 30 better than Coe, who finished third.

Lake Forest will be in action again on Tuesday at Elmhurst College's Bluejay Classic. The event will be held at Oak Brook Golf Club in Oak Brook, Illinois, and will begin at 10:00 a.m.
