Sophomore Nick Rehm and freshman Trevor Allen were the runner-up at #2 doubles as the Forester men's tennis team completed its season at the Midwest Conference Championships on Sunday.
Rehm and Allen defeated the #2 team from Carroll University 8-3 in the quarterfinals and their counterparts from Cornell College 8-4 in the semifinals. They were then knocked off 8-2 by Grinnell College in the championship match.
Lake Forest tandems also reached the semifinals at #1 and #3. Sophomore Dan Pivonka and senior John Snider occupied the top spot in the lineup and defeated Carroll's best duo 8-2 before falling 9-7 to Lawrence in the semifinals. Junior Dragan Trivanovic and senior Jordan Stoler edged out the #3 team from St. Norbert College 9-7 in the quarterfinals but fell 8-4 to Monmouth in the next round.
Snider finished his career with 52 doubles victories, which ranks fourth in program history. He also finished second in team annals with 63 singles wins and third with 115 triumphs overall. The victory by Snider and Pivonka on Sunday was their 21st of their career at #1 doubles, the most in school history by a doubles team at that position. They recorded 11 of those victories this year, one shy of the program's single-season record. Pivonka also had three #1 doubles wins without Snider in 2016 and, for the second year in a row, he tied the single-season mark with 14 victories at the top spot in the doubles lineup. Allen's 19 doubles wins this season matched the third-highest total in team history and his 39 overall victories rank fourth.
Snider and Stoler are the only players the team will lose to graduation.
