Junior Ellis Lora-Arceo posted a pair of victories, including the one that clinched the match, as the Foresters edged out visiting Augustana College 5-4 on Saturday. Augustana is ranked 20th in the Central Region in the last Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
Lora-Arceo and freshman Trevor Allen came out on top of a 9-7 at #2 doubles but Augustana was victorious at each of the other two positions and led 2-1 going into singles play.
The Viking lead was 3-1 after recording a win at #3 singles. Allen then finished off a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 triumph at #2 and junior Dragan Trivanovic tied the score with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at #5. Sophomore Dan Pivonka needed to take a pair of tiebreakers at the top spot in the lineup to give the home team the lead. He defeated the Vikings #1 singles player 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-4). Lora-Arceo then posted the Foresters' second three-set victory of the night, prevailing 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at #4 to clinch the match for Lake Forest.
The Foresters are now 6-5 this season while Augustana's record fell to 7-6.
Lake Forest will be off for two weeks before traveling to Carthage College on Saturday, April 2, to take on Illinois Wesleyan University at noon and the hosts at 3:00 p.m.
