Both his matches were close but sophomore Dan Pivonka won at the top of the doubles and singles lineups as the Forester men's tennis team blanked visiting Carroll University 9-0 at the College Park Athletic Club-East Tuesday night.
Pivonka and senior John Snider prevailed 8-5 at #1 doubles to give the home team a 3-0 lead in the match. Junior Ellis Lora-Arceo and freshman Trevor Allen had posted an 8-3 victory at #2 while junior Dragan Trivanovic and senior Jordan Stoler won 8-4 at #3.
Lora-Arceo was the first to finish in singles and his 6-0, 6-4 victory at #4 brought the Foresters to within a point of clinching the match. Snider then provided that point with his 6-0, 6-0 rout of the Pioneers' #3 player. Trivanovic followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victoriy at #5 and Allen finished off a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at #2. Pivonka edged out Carroll's best singles player 2-6, 6-2, (11-9) and sophomore Nick Rehm closed out the contest with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #6.
The victory raised the Foresters' overall record to 9-7 and their Midwest Conference mark to 2-1. Carroll fell to 3-10 overall and 0-3 in the league.
Lake Forest will continue conference play at home this weekend. The team will host St. Norbert College at 9:00 Saturday morning and Lawrence University at 3:00 that afternoon. The Foresters will also take on Ripon College Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
