Freshman Karl Fehn won all three of his completed matches on the day as the Lake Forest College men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Wabash College but defeated the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 7-2 at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff on Saturday.
Fehn and fellow freshman Trevor Allen knocked off the #2 doubles team from Wabash 9-7 after the visitors had come out on top at the other two positions in the doubles lineup.
Fehn fell 6-1 in the first set at #5 singles but led 5-2 in the second when the match was ended in order to get the other two contests of the day in. The final match out on the courts was #1 singles, where Forester sophomore Dan Pivonka battled the Little Giants' top player but was eventually edged out 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-3), (10-8).
Wabash, the 16th-ranked team in the Central Region, also defeated Oshkosh 7-1 to improve to 4-2 on the young season.
Lake Forest took two of the three doubles matches against the Titans. Pivonka and junior Ellis Lora-Arceo prevailed 8-5 at #1 while Fehn and Allen were victorious again by a score of 8-4.
Pivonka posted a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory at #1 singles and Fehn took both sets 6-2 at #5 to give the home team a 4-1 lead. The match-clinching point was turned in by Allen at #2, where he won 6-1, 6-0. After Oshkosh earned its second point with a victory at #6, junior Dragan Trivanovic finished off a 2-6, 6-4, (12-10) triumph at #4 and Lora-Arceo closed out the contest with a 6-4, 6-3 win at #3.
The Foresters are now 1-2 on the season while Oshkosh fell to 0-4.
