The Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 6-2 by visiting Adrian College, the fourth-ranked team in the country, Friday night. Forester freshman forward Billy Kent scored the only goal of the opening period but the Bulldogs netted four in the second en route to the win.
Kent netted his seventh goal of the season at the 11:56 mark of the opening period and fellow freshman forward Shawn Nelson assisted on the play. The Foresters, who entered the weekend ranked 13th in the country, outshot the visitors 18-8 in the period but were unable to add to their lead.
Adrian tied the score at the 2:54 mark of the second period and took the lead 22 seconds later. Lake Forest senior Jason McAloon then knotted the game at two when he scored for the eighth time this season at 9:31. Senior forward Mcauley Banning and defenseman Charlie Stein assisted on the goal. The Bulldogs scored what proved to be the official game-winner at 10:18 and tacked on their fourth goal of the period at 12:40.
The visitors put the game out of reach with scores at 13:03 and 15:41 in the third, despite being outshot 11-8 in the period.
The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record to 14-5-5 and their Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 12-4-1. Adrian is now 18-3-3 overall and the victory gave the Bulldogs a mark of 15-1-1 in league play and the 2015 Peters Cup, given to the conference's regular season champion.
The same two teams will face off in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
