The Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 2-1 at Milwuakee School of Engineering Friday night, ending the Foresters' program record 15-game unbeaten streak. Sophomore Jimmy Cusan scored the visitors' only goal of the contest.
Cusan netted his fifth goal of the season with 2:13 to play in the opening period. He was assisted by freshman forward Shawn Nelson.
The Raiders tied the game at the 10:53 mark of the second period and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 17:29 in the third.
Lake Forest out-shot the home team 20-13 in the first period and 10-9 in the second. M.S.O.E. put a dozen shots on goal to the Foresters' five in the final 20 minutes.
Forester junior goaltender Leo Podolsky made 32 saves in the night.
Lake Forest's last loss occurred on November 21 and the team had posted an 11-0-4 record during the longest unbeaten streak in the nation this season. It also surpassed the previous school record streak of 14 games without a loss posted by the 1977-78 Foresters.
Lake Forest is now 13-4-5 overall this season and in second place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings with an 11-3-1 mark in league play. The Raiders improved to 14-8 overall and 9-6 in the conference.
The same two teams will face off again in Lake Forest's Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday night at 7:00.
