The Forester men's hockey team tied host St. Norbert College, the defending national champions and top-ranked team in the country, 2-2 Saturday night. Lake Forest senior defenseman Charlie Stein scored the game-tying goal at the 8:10 mark of the third period.
Stein's power play goal was his first score of the season and the third goal of his career. The team captain was assisted by fellow senior defenseman Ben Certo and sophomore forward Jack Lewis.
Lake Forest also scored the first goal of the game. It was the second score of the season for freshman forward Billy Kent, whose unassisted goal gave the visitors the lead at the 6:08 mark of the opening period.
The Green Knights tied the score on a power play goal at the 10:28 mark of the first period and took the lead at 10:52 in the second.
A night after stopping 37 of 39 shots on goal, Forester junior goaltender Leo Podolsky made a career-high 42 saves on Saturday. He is now 2-1-1 with a .951 save percentage on the year.
St. Norbert out-shot the Foresters 11-8 in the opening period, 19-7 in the second, and 11-8 again in the third. Both teams put three shots on goal in the 5-minute overtim period.
Lake Forest is now 2-2-1 overall this season and 1-2-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. St. Norbert is 5-0-1, both overall and in league play.
The Foresters will play a pair of non-conference games on the road next weekend. They will travel to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. face-off and will tak on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at the same time on Saturday.
