Lake Forest College men's hockey player Leo Podolsky was named Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday for his performance in a home-and-home sweep of Marian University last weekend.
Podolsky, a junior goaltender, made 34 saves, including 19 in as many chances in the first and third periods combined, in a 4-3 Forester triumph Friday night in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
Lake Forest prevailed 4-1 over the Sabres at home the following evening and Podolsky matched his career-high with 43 saves in the contest. He turned away 13 shots on goal in the opening period, 19 in the second, and 11 during the game's final 20 minutes.
At .949, Podolsky currently owns the second-highest save percentage in the nation this season. He also ranks 10th in the country with a 1.72 goals against average and 18th with a .750 winning percentage (9-2-3).
NCHA Players of the Week are selected by the league's directors of sports information and public relations. Podolsky also earned the award on November 23 and December 7 this season and once last year.
