The Lake Forest College women's soccer team was defeated 4-3 by Lawrence University Friday in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament. Freshman Courtenay Raymond scored to tie the game 3-3 with 8:51 to play but the Vikings netted the game-winner less than three minutes later.
The Vikings started the scoring just a minute and 43 seconds into the contest when a Forester defender deflected a cross into the Lake Forest goal.
The Foresters tied the game in the 22nd minute when senior Emily Weber took a pass from freshman Anya Moran and drilled it past the Lawrence goalkeeper from approximately 25 yards away. It was Weber's fourth goal of the season.
The game remained tied 1-1 until Lawrence pulled ahead again at the 48:55 mark. The Vikings found the back of the net again at 65:49 to take a two-goal lead.
Lake Forest needed just 60 seconds to cut the deficit in half. The goal was scored by junior Erica May off a corner kick from senior Bianca Greene. It was May's fourth goal of the year. Greene finiahed her career ranked 16th in program history with 62 career points and second with 36 assists, one shy of the program record.
Raymond then took a long pass from senior Christine Sorensen and scored for the fifth time this season, tying the game at three with less than 8:51 to play.
Lawrence scored what turned out to be the game-winner with 5:59 on the clock. The Vikings evened their record at 8-8-1 and will face either Monmouth College or host Carroll University in the tournament final tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
The Foresters outshot Lawrence 6-4 in the first half and 8-6 in the second. Lake Forest put eight shots on goal in the game to the Vikings' six.
The Foresters finished the season with an overall mark of 11-8-0. Along with Greene, Sorensen, and Weber, the team will lose fellow seniors Molly Shaw and C.C. Hayne to graduation in May.
