The Forester men's lacrosse team scored the game's first six goals in a 12-10 victory over visiting Marian University on Friday.
The scoring run featured scores from six different players, beginning with freshman Bode Rubright's 15th of the year. Fellow freshman Trip Gaston followed with the first of his two tallies in the game and classmate Luke Bowers raised his season total to 11. Freshman Jack Langworthy and sophomore John Casey continued the run and freshman Chas Dean finished it off with his 15th goal of the season.
After Marian finally got on the scoreboard, Forester freshman Adam Phillips netted his second score of 2022 to give the home team a 7-1 advantage after one quarter of play.
Langworthy struck again 42 seconds into the second stanza and Casey's team-high 30th goal of the year made the score 9-1.
The Sabres scored the game's next three goals before Gaston's 16th of the season gave the Foresters a seemingly comfortable 10-4 halftime lead.
Marian, however, outscored the Foresters 4-1 in the third quarter. Langworthy secured a hat trick but the margin had shrunk to three goals with 15 minutes remaining.
Two more Sabre scores in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter made it a one-goal game but the Lake Forest defense stiffened and an insurance goal by Langworthy, his fourth of the day and 16th this spring, helped secure the victory.
Forester freshman goalie Andrew Widlar made a dozen saves in the contest, including five in the final period, to earn the win.
Casey led Lake Forest with seven ground balls while freshman Andrew Eisenman added five and Gaston four.
The triumph evened the Foresters' record on the season at 6-6 while Marian fell to 4-10.
Lake Forest's Midwest Lacrosse Conference game against North Central University, scheduled for Saturday, April 23, has been postponed. If it is not rescheduled, the Foresters' final game of the regular season will be played at the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, Minnesota, next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
