The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association announced the 2020-21 NCHA All-Academic Teams on Thursday and the Lake Forest men established a new league record with 22 honorees.
It was the second time in the last three seasons that Lake Forest's membership on the All-Academic Team was higher than any other team in the conference. The previous record was also set by the Foresters in 2018-19.
To earn the award a player must be at least a sophomore with a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better. There were a record 215 honorees spread across all of the league's men's and women's teams.
Eighteen men in the NCHA were recognized for the third consecutive season, including Lake Forest seniors Nolan Carothers, Boyd DiClemente, Kyler Magus, and Aaron O'Neill.
Two-year honorees include Forester seniors Mark DerManulian and Joey Sardina and juniors Max Cavallini, Kyle Cote, Josh Giacomin, Will Lebel, and Zach Leonard.
Junior Cullen Kane and sophomores Vaughan Bamford, David Cohen, Brendan Coughlin, Ryan Kropp, Sam Lau, Scotty Nicholson, Erik Nilsson, Carson Poulin, Drew Shields, and Nick Wiencek were first-time selections.
