Dan Burns '81 was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for posting the only eight-point game in program history on November 16, 1979.
Lake Forest took the season opener over Illinois State 12-2 with Burns, a junior left wing, scoring four goals and setting up four others. He added three more tallies the following night as the Foresters won another lopsided affair 14-0.
Burns completed the 1979-80 season with 42 points on 24 goals and 18 assists, ranking among the top four on the team in all three categories. He finished his four years at the College with 67 goals and 122 points and is still listed among the program's all-time leaders in both categories.
Successful on the soccer field as well, Burns was a two-time All-Midwest Collegiate Athletic Conference honoree and helped lead Lake Forest to a pair of league titles. The Forester soccer and hockey teams posted a combined overall record of 93-48-6 during his four years at the College.
Burns was part of the 1977-78 NCAA Division II runner-up hockey team, which was inducted into the Lake Forest College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003. He was also enshrined as an individual in 2012.

Since all Lake Forest College sporting events during the fall semester have been postponed, the Athletic Department is utilizing its archives to continue the weekly recognition of high-level performances by Foresters. The department has selected a Forester Athlete of the Week since 1996, so the honorees for the rest of 2020 will have earned the distinction at least 25 years ago.
A note of gratitude goes out to Mike Dau '58, whose tireless efforts as the department's historian has made this fall's Forester Athlete of the Week research possible.
