Freshman Faith Jung tied for sixth place as an individual and helped lead the Lake Forest College women's golf team to a 5th-place finish at the 17-team UW-Whitewater Fall Invite over the weekend.
Jung carded a season-best 81 in Saturday's second round after finishing in 85 on Friday. Both scores led the team by at least three strokes. She recorded nine pars and a birdie in round one and eight pars with back-to-back birdies during her final 18 holes. Her two-day score of 166 was tied-for-sixth out of 96 players at the event.
Junior Anhayte Guajardo was next on the team and tied-for-24th in the tournament with a score of 178. Her 88 on Friday included two pars and a birdie and she finished with three pars and a pair of birdies during a 90 in round two.
Freshman Amanda Lee and sophomore Kaitlyn Gray were tide-for-34th in the field at 183. Lee improved by five shots and Gray by 13 from Friday to Saturday. Sophomore Cece Cruz improved by six strokes from day one to day two and was tied-for-41st, just a shot behind Lee and Gray.
Lake Forest's score of 344 on Saturday was 18 shots better than the day before and the team climbed from a tie for eighth place to fifth at the event. Whitewater won the tournament with a two-day score of 640, which was 45 strokes ahead of runner-up Wheaton College. Carthage was third at 688 and Olivet Navarene University fourth at 698, eight shots ahead of the Foresters. Concordia University Wisconsin, which was tied with Lake Forest at last weekend's Marian University Invite, was sixth with a score of 714.
The Foresters will travel to Rockford, Illinois, for next Sunday's Aldeen Preview, where the team will get a chance to play the course where the MWC Championships will be held the following weekend.
