Strong Second Day Lifts Foresters to Sixth at Shootout on the Border

Strong Second Day Lifts Foresters to Sixth at Shootout on the Border

Freshmen Kaitlyn Gray, Amanda Lee, Faith Jung, and Emily Argersinger shot in the 80s on Saturday as the Lake Forest College women's golf team climbed into a tie for sixth place at the Carthage Shootout on the Border.

The Foresters were tied for 10th place after Friday's opening round before improving by 16 shots with a score of 344 on Saturday. It was the team's fourth-best round in program history and the two-day score of 704 ranks second in team annals.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater won the event in 649 strokes, 11 fewer than runner-up Hope College. Carthage (671) finished third, North Central College (678) fourth, and Olivet Nazarene University (679 fifth). Trine University and Wheaton College were tied with the Foresters for sixth in the 17-team field.

Gray was Lake Forest's top finisher. She carded an 82 on Saturday and her 172 for the weekend ranked 23rd out of 103 golfers at the event. Junior Anhayte Guajardo's 89 on Friday tied for the team lead and she was one shot better on day two to finish tied-for-37th overall. Argersinger, who was not among the five players designated to score for the team, posted back-to-back rounds of 89 while Lee's 87 on Saturday gave her a score of 178 for the weekend as well. Argersinger and Lee were tied-for-40th overall. Jung matched Lee with an 87 on Saturday and her two-day score of 182 was one shot behind sophomore Cece Cruz, who finished in the top half of the field in 51st place.

The Foresters finished ninth at the same event a year ago.

Lake Forest will host a dual match against visiting Benedictine University on Friday. The teams' top players will tee off at 2:00 and the event will be held at nearby Lake Bluff Golf Club.
